My Super Easy Indian Clay Mask Recipe

Imagine this: you’re dragging your overstuffed carry-on that you managed to hustle onto the plane, much to the dismay of the gate agent. You front like it’s not that heavy, and in your heart, you know there’s space in the overhead compartment because you lucked up all the way to this point. First, you beat traffic, you flew through TSA because they opened a new lane right in front of you, and the train heading to your gate pulled up right as you walked up to it, so you managed to make your flight!

You get to your gate, and your flight is delayed. Yay! Now, you can stop to get something to eat. You walk onto the plane, trying your best not to hit anyone with your stuffed purse, when you spot someone deep into their facial routine, carefully putting on a sheet mask. Tuh!

The old, no skin routine, dry face me would’ve furrowed my brows wondering why she couldn’t tough it out for a few hours.

Baby buttocks, soft skin in the face me thinks, Blu…why would you not? I’ve viewed enough Instastories to know that any blogger who has a plane skin routine arrives looking refreshed. Skincare and masks don’t have to be limited to girls’ nights, spa visits, and self-care Sundays.

But for the those of us who aren’t gallivanting through the clouds, you can do your own face mask without the extra potentially judgy pairs of eyes on you.

By now you’ve probably heard of the Indian Healing clay mask, it’s probably the most used mask by millennials. It’s my go-to when I’m breaking out, and you can easily find it at Sprouts, Whole Foods, and your local online mom and pop store, Amazon.

Indian Clay Mask Recipe

  • 1 scoop of clay
  • 2 capsules of activated charcoal
  • A slash of apple cider vinegar (water if your skin is sensitive)

Let it sizzle, and mix it with something non-metallic. The clay draws out toxins like heavy metals, so you don’t want the metal spoon mixing with the clay. The activated charcoal absorbs toxins, and the apple cider vinegar tightens your skin, acts as a toner, helps with acne, and shrinks your pores.

Put it all over your clean, dry face (you wouldn’t go to the dentist without brushing your teeth first, right?.) Use said non-metallic spoon or a facial brush. It doesn’t have to be thick. I keep mine on for 20 minutes, but anywhere between 10 and 20 minutes is good. It just depends on how sensitive your skin is. I usually do this mask once a week to keep my skin looking good.

If you still have some left over, feel free to put some under your pits. Why not detox them too?

After I wash off the mask with water, I like to continue with my regular facial cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturizer routine. Don’t fret. Your skin will be a little red, but it’ll feel so smooth.

You can also do spot areas like your t-zone, neck or chin, wherever you’re having an issue.

For $9 you can get about 25 facials.

If you’re transitioning to a natural deodorant, doing a clay mask a few times a week will help pull out the toxins in your body. This helps your body better receive the natural deodorant I talked about over here.

The Indian clay mask is one of my staple beauty products! What type of DIY skincare stuff do you do? What challenges are you facing with your skin? I hope you’re looking after your skin during this dry winter! I am beyond ready for springs!
