The tea on Matcha green tea powder

Matcha tea

Happy Tuesday my loves. I’m sitting in bed cross-legged with a mug of red raspberry tea.

In the middle of summer? Oh, yes.

I drink tea every single day. I haven’t always been this way. There was a point in my teenage years where I became a coffee drinker and I don’t know why. I didn’t grow up with a Starbucks nor did I stop anywhere to pick one up on the way to school, I don’t even know who bought the coffee canister because we are a family of tea drinkers. This means I made a conscious decision to make my own coffee.

I don’t remember when I fell back in love with tea, but I have graduated from pre-packaged boxes to buying copious amount of loose leaf tea; that’s what a tea drinker does.

I know many people need coffee every day several times a day to function. I get it, I’m not a morning person, At. All. I wish I could spring up in the morning all perky like my boobs and full of life. Nah, I need my quiet time. Monty, dog one, usually wakes up and glances at me and If I shake my head he goes back to sleep, he gets me. When I finally make it downstairs I drink my lemon water and prepare my morning smoothie. I talk quite a bit about drinking lemon water here. One of my favorite things I incorporate into my smoothies is Matcha tea.

Coffee drinkers, I need you to hear me out here. I’m not saying I’m trying to wean you off of coffee, but here’s why I decided to reduce my caffeine intake.

A few years ago I was in one of those relationships where I was eating a lot and drinking a lot of daiquiris. I could not resist the food in New Orleans. OMG.. I wasn’t eating healthy and my body was going haywire. And around that time I had the HPV vaccinations.

*rolls eyes*

I did what any normal person would do and went on WebMD and convinced myself that I had ovarian cancer. The symptoms fit. I went for a pap and everything seemed normal, but there was still something was off in my body. My primary care referred me to a specialist and I got another pap and my very first ultrasound. The first one is done on the side of the body where you’re experiencing pain, and the other is a transvaginal ultrasound. Chile, they put this Comcast remote shaped dildo in your vageen to take pictures. It wasn’t as big, but still, I wasn’t mentally ready.

Of course, when you look at the screen nothing makes sense. I honestly feel they make those things so you purposely don’t know what is going on. It only adds to my self-diagnosed anxiety. The results came back and I found out I had a cyst on my ovary about a centimeter big. According to the doctor, it wasn’t a cause for concern, which was a relief because my diagnosis was obviously wrong. I was prescribed ibuprofen and told to monitor how I feel. Like, that was it. From that moment I decided I wanted to live better, and it was a good distraction from a stressful relationship. I didn’t want to use medication every single month for my ovaries, especially when I’ve never had issues up until this point.

One thing I learned from my ex is that I viewed eating as a thing to do, like an event. Um, yeah. Food is glorious, food is life. PLUS, YOU WERE THE ASKING ME IF I WANTED MORE FOOD!! Sorry for the shouty caps. I realized I needed to change my relationship with food, and in doing so my symptoms became nonexistent and I felt so much better. I learnt that cysts and fibroids feed off of sugar and caffeine so I decided I wanted to limit how much caffeine I take. Matcha tea has less caffeine than coffee but it does a lot more for you. Matcha has less caffeine, the effects last longer, and it doesn’t give you that coffee crash. I can always tell when I forget to add matcha to my smoothie because I literally move like a snail crawling up a greased brick wall.

So what’s the tea on Matcha?

I’m here to tell you what I’ve found out.

5 Health Benefits of Matcha Green Tea Powder

  1. It has 137 times more ECG (antioxidants) than green tea, which reduces inflammation
  2. It contains higher levels of chlorophyll, which aid in the detoxification of toxins and heavy metals.
  3. It stimulates your metabolism. Hello, weight loss and a better functioning digestive system!
  4. Helps with concentration and focus because of the L-theanine, so you can focus at work, school or at home.
  5. Boosts energy levels! (I totally need this. Because again, I’m NOT a morning person).

Matcha has so many other great benefits and I’m sure you’ve probably seen it all over social media lately. Yes, it’s a trendy supplement, but this is definitely something I use on a regular basis. Amazon has everything but I’m sure you can find it at your local health store too. If you’re a coffee drinker, I think it’s time to come out of the sunken place and give Matcha a try. What say ye? Would you switch to matcha tea if it gave you the same or better results? What type of teas do you love?

Best,
